Imagine a giant pizza cut into millions of tiny slices. This pizza is a company, like Apple or Disney. A stock is one tiny slice of that pizza. If you buy a stock, you become a part-owner of the company!
If the company does well, your slice gets more valuable. If they do poorly, your slice might get smaller in value.
