Inflation is when money loses its power. Imagine you have a magic €1 coin that buys 10 candies today. Next year, because of inflation, that same €1 coin only buys 8 candies. The coin is the same, but the candies cost more!
If you keep your money under your mattress, inflation slowly eats it like a tiny mouse. That is why we must invest to grow our money faster than inflation.
